Project Description

The goal of this research project is to understand the experiences of platform workers across national contexts. This project focuses on the unique experiences of Black platform workers in hopes of understanding how structural racism shapes work inside the platform economy. In this study, participants will be asked a series of interview questions geared towards uncovering the work conditions of platform work such as issues related to systematic racism and sexism, as well as uplift the suggestions workers have for improving platform applications for drivers/shoppers. The data collected from this study will only be used for research and educational purposes. Participation is voluntary and all personal information will be removed such that participants can not be identified by individuals outside of this project.

Participation Requirements:

To participate in this study you must have worked for or own a platform company between 2019-2023. Your main source of income should be from working on these platform applications. Participants can work for multiple applications, but they must list all applications at the time of the interview. Individuals who are 21 years old and over can apply. Lastly, participants must identify as Black (i.e. member of the African Diaspora) All participants will be compensated via a $50 pre-paid visa gift card.
